From the Australian Financial Times - Another Exxon record as oil surges.

EXXONMOBIL, the world's largest public oil company, has reported earnings growth that set first-quarter records but missed analyst expectations and lagged the blockbuster results achieved in the previous quarter.

Exxon said its output rose by 5per cent, the first increase since the third quarter of 2004, while earnings rose to $US8.4 billion ($11.2 billion), a 7 per cent rise or 14 per cent after items last year.

That $US8.4 Billion Quarterly Profit, is fifth largest quarterly profit ever recorded by any global company.

Every Utah school receives money from Trust Lands funds, the bulk of which come from natural gas and oil development, said David Hebertson, spokesman for Utah School Trust Lands.
"Our mineral income makes up more than two-thirds of the total amount of the trust. We've had three record years in a row because of increasing fuel prices, and we expect that trend to continue," he said. The fund has seen a nearly 108 percent increase in revenue from oil, gas and minerals since 2003.
While increasing fuel prices are benefiting one area of children's education, they are causing strife in other areas.
Many school districts are reducing the number of field trips they offer, or taking shorter, walking field trips.
Jordan School District budgeted for the increase in gas prices, but not by enough to cover the recent spike.
"We drive nearly 2 million miles a year in our buses, and we need the gas to heat our buildings," said Melinda Colton, director of communi- cations for Jordan. "The prices have exceeded what we planned for."
However, Jordan is the only district that runs natural-gas-powered buses, with 30 in their fleet.
The Utah Legislature also chipped in money for next year's fuel costs for school districts statewide.
The money the schools receive from Trust Lands goes to each school's most pressing academic need and would not be used for transportation or heating, Colton said.

Utah residents can find comfort that while the average price of gasoline may be 25 cents higher than last summer, at least they have the cheapest gasoline in the nation.

According to The Associated Press, Utah’s average price of $2.34 per gallon on Wednesday, April 12, 2006, was the lowest in the nation. Utah benefits from having close access to fuel from Wyoming and Canada, and vehicles in the state are able to use cheaper, lower octane gasoline because of its elevation.

The Energy Information Administration, however, has predicted rising prices across the country. It includes months April through September in its summer estimates. The EIA estimated an average price of $2.50 per gallon for the entire year, 23 cents more than last year’s average.

Also in 2005 irate consumers attempted an ill conceived protest scheme to boycott gas stations on one day of the week. The oil companies found it silly when all of their customers returned the very next day to get caught up on their purchases. They never lost a penny!

Now gas prices are upwards worse than ever. Utah businesses and consumers will only find relief by implementing a more intelligent protest to their energy suppliers. The best such method is for the total boycott of at least one major supplier. Exxon/Mobil is a prime candidate for this boycott action as they continue to charge the highest price at the pump and make the biggest profits. As long as their price for regular unleaded at the pump stays above $1.50 per gallon, you should avoid purchasing any of their products including gasoline, snacks and car wash. Take your business to their competitors. The suffering of the world's largest oil company will send a stark warning to this industry and they will then be motivated to take corrective action.
